When car manufacturers won’t let you turn on your fogs independently of the low beams! So I took care of that tonight. (ignore the old pic, but it shows what I mean)

Kinja'd!!!

Using this handy post !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , I snipped and spliced and snapped it all back together to find.... I chose the wrong wire the first time and the fogs were only coming on with the high beams. Oops.

Kinja'd!!!

Re-tapped the CORRECT wire and now its all good. (no, the headlight isn’t still burnt out. The switch is on parking lights/fogs only)

Kinja'd!!!

I even replaced my burnt out glovebox light bulb while it was accessible! Hooray, multitasking!

What is the reasoning behind them not letting you have both?

No clue. I know of some that do, and some that don’t. Shouldn’t the choice be up to US?

‘Cause fogs are meant only for very low-visibility situations, when you’d always have your regular lights on anyway. Having them on when it’s clear is only for ‘looking cool’ – many think it looks the opposite b/c it’s too much light for the conditions (most noticeable in oncoming traffic).

I always liked it because I drove dark ass backroads with no street lights. The extra light was nice.

Or even residential neighborhoods w/o streetlights! Helps you see the ground immediately in front of you, which the regular headlights overshoot. Still, one’d always have both the low beams and fogs on in that case, never just the fogs...

The only thing I hate more than exposed fasteners are fake fasteners on bro truck rims. No one thinks you have bead locks.

When I lived in Virginia the yearly state safety inspection required that accessory lights could only be on if the low beams were on and had to automatically shut off when the high beams were on. Why? Because Virginia. Or maybe it’s a federal thing. Either way it’s stupid. I failed the inspection with the ’97 Miata so I removed the driving (not fog) lights, re-inspected, then went home and reattached the lights. It makes me happy that I’m in Colorado now where there are no yearly safety inspections.

Yeah true, even my W123 Merc has the lows on with the yellow fogs. But my switch is a crazy bundle of wires. I once swapped this for a new one and I had to label every wire and put them on the new one. I’m not sure how I would isolate them, I’d have to make a new switch just for the fogs and just disconnect them on the other end. I do have an empty switch that used to switch to a reserve fuel tank, so that could be the fog switch.

High beams are pointed higher to see further. Low beams and fogs are pointed lower to see right in front of the car. So if the fog lights are on when the high beams are, that will affect our eyes ability to see further.

That's my guess.

Every car I every owned with factory fogs where all with the low beams only.

I actually like them now, since at night it helps you see that the car in the opposite direction is on his low beams. Sometimes it’s hard to tell will the hid cars.

My problem is that my Charger looks bitchin (like bitchin Camaro, bitchin), running like that. And then the DRLS come on when I shift out of park.... Goes from cool to, Gramps forgot to switch all the way over.

Damn Kids.

Ugh. DRLs. I remember back in my GM days pulling the DRL relay out. Killed the DRLs, but also one highbeam. The other trick was to click the parking brake on one notch.

Our CX-5 has DRLs, sometimes I drive with the parking and DRLs on because its silly looking.

When its foggy out, you can cut low through the fog to see, and not get blinded by the low beams reflecting off the fog. And because in low light-non headlight needing situations, you can run just the fogs.
